Australian Red Ensign Flown on Boats Australian registered merchant ships should fly the Australian Red ensign. Government ships, fishing boats, pleasure boats and commercial craft (less than 24mtrs in tonnage length) can fly either the Australian National flag or the Australian Red ensign but not both together.
